Mugabe says demonstrations are not the ZANU-way, asks Herald “richiri paper here”?

“Iyi yowe, yowe mupaper, yowe yowe mademonstrations it’s not the Zanu way, it was never, ever, ever the way of our party which has created us. This is a primitive way of doing things actually.

“We are a dignified party and if we are going to punish someone we will punish him even to the extent of dismissing him. Zvekungo zhambatata-zhambatata let’s not do it and if The Herald is to act like the opposition, richiri paper here?

“Nanga, nanga nemunhu hmm. NdiMinister, nanga nanga. Aiwa I don’t like that. Not that I support what he (Cde Kasukuwere) may be alleged to have been doing. No! But there is a method of correcting him,” he was quoted as saying by the very Herald.

Ironically, Mugabe did not express the same outrage when women demonstrated against another Minister Eunice Sandi-Moyo leading to speculation that he is protecting Kasukuwere.

It was also not clear why Mugabe felt Information Minister Mushowe should be responsible for what The Herald wrote or why he felt the paper was acting like the opposition.

Zimbabwe Newspapers, which publishes The Herald, is a publicly owned company listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, though the government has a controlling shareholding.

At one time, Geoff Nyarota, was a shareholder in Zimpapers when he already owned its biggest competitor, the Daily News.

However, Mugabe gave the impression that the Herald must be reined in because it is a government- read ZANU-PF- paper and only left the word “redu” to ask “richiri paper redu here?”
