More than 100 Zimbabweans deported from the UK

More than 100 Zimbabweans were deported from the United Kingdom in the past three years but a much larger number of over 900 left voluntarily during the same period, though all did not return to their home country, the British government said yesterday.

A total of 127 Zimbabweans -37 in 2010, 41 in 2011 and 49 last year- were deported but only 85 returned to Zimbabwe. Thirty-five went to the European Union and seven to unknown destinations.

Some 931 left the UK voluntarily during the same period but only 717 went back to Zimbabwe. The bulk, 466 left in 2010. The figure dropped to 271 in 2011 and to 194 last year.

Among this group only 13 went to the European Union and 201 to unknown destinations.
