President Emmerson Mnangagwa is to travel to Angola today to pay a courtesy call to President Joao Lourenco.
His spokesman Gorge Charamba said Mnangagwa is paying courtesy calls on Southern African Development Community leaders after taking over from Robert Mugabe on 24 November.
“The President is paying courtesy calls on regional Heads of State and Government. We started with South Africa and we are going to Angola tomorrow (today) to do the same. We will go to Namibia on Monday then Zambia and Botswana, among other countries. That is the format. If you have been appointed a President, you must pay courtesy calls on elders in the region,” Charamba was quoted by the Herald as saying.
Mnangagwa was yesterday blasted by former Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo, who insisted that his administration was illegal even if the world accepted it.
“It’s not the world which chooses the leaders of Zimbabwe; Zimbabwe has a constitution and Mnangagwa and Chiwenga know only too well that they have come into power via the bullet and not the ballot.
“The constitution of Zimbabwe requires people to come into power via the ballot and the people of Zimbabwe will decide. If the world wants to be at odds with the popular will of the people of Zimbabwe, that is up to them,” Moyo said on the British Broadcasting Corporation programme, Hardtalk.
