Jonathan Moyo celebrates 61st birthday in exile

Former Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo is celebrating his 61st birthday today in exile.

He received and retweeted a birthday message from his sister Simiso Mlevu who wrote: “Every birthday gets a little more special. Maybe that’s because family gets more important as we get older. Today it’s especially important that you know how much I love having you as a brother”.

Moyo yesterday told the British Broadcasting Corporation programme Hardtalk that he left the country legally because the military wanted to eliminate him. He was saved by “angels”.

Moyo was not at liberty to say where he was but he insisted that no matter what the world said President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government was illegal because it came to power through a coup.

He insisted that he was not a refugee because there was no warrant for his arrest when he left the country.
