Mnangagwa spokesman says Chamisa needs dialogue more than anyone else

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba today said opposition leader Nelson Chamisa needs dialogue more than anyone else but he is creating an acrimonious environment that does not promote dialogue by questioning Mnangagwa’s legitimacy.

Speaking on talk-radio Capitalk FM Charamba said there was indeed going to be dialogue but this would be with all interested groups including youths, the business community, churches and the opposition.

He, however, said when talking about the opposition this should not be synonymous with one person. One has to look at the number of opposition parties that participated in last year’s elections.

Zimbabwe had about 130 registered political parties last year and more than 50 participated in the elections with 23 fielding presidential candidates.

Charamba said one of the preconditions for the dialogue was that the interlocutors must know each other. They must respect each other and give each other the status that they deserve.

Chamisa still argues that he won last year’s elections and one of the first issues that must be resolved is Mnangagwa’s legitimacy.

Yesterday he called for the international community to intervene saying his requests for dialogue with Mnangagwa had come to naught.

He also said he was not getting a sympathetic ear from the Southern African Development Community.
