Chiwenga has been on and off duty due to poor health since last year’s elections and some media have even claimed that he was poisoned.
Mnangagwa said Chiwenga has not been feeling well for some time and had to be sent to India and when he returned he reported for duty before falling ill again and was sent to South Africa.
The President said he talked to Chiwenga almost on a daily basis and he was glad that Chiwenga is now recovering and is able to exercise on his own.
Online media has been awash with news about the rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga with some media saying Mnangagwa will be removed from power by the military within a year.
An audio purported to be a recording of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa complaining about people following her and the military threatening to topple her husband has also been doing the rounds.
Information secretary Nick Mangwana said the audio was manipulated.
Independent Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa described the audio as hogwash.
“Why the desperation to tarnish FL honestly? There’s the economy & fighting criminals to deal with. Let’s unite to fight crime,” he tweeted.
“Wouldn’t a video of this occurrence be more credible than this doctored audio? I maintain it’s not her but a poor & malicious impersonation. There are forensic audits needing release & scrutiny in order to pave the way for a corrupt free society & economical growth, let’s not lose focus.
“The FL is hardworking & any parallels drawn with the former are spiteful & relevance seeking. Anyway u can’t pull a good woman down & I know such poppycock won’t deter her.
“Shame for those losers who’ve nothing better to do with their time than create falsehoods. They need to turn to new careers.”
Her husband’s critics like former Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo, however, had a field day.
