MDC split, elections boycott and Dzamara

(Later that day)

Having observed Hon. Members from ZANU PF moving out of the House

HON. CHAMISA: Hon. Speaker Sir, I rise on a point of order on the conduct of our colleagues from the other side in ZANU PF. I have just been advised by a Member of Parliament from ZANU PF that they have been asked by their Chief Whip to leave the House because they do not want a quorum to be there – [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections] – Hon. Speaker, it is very important and it is clear because you saw the movement in droves – [ZANU PF HON. MEMBERS: Makuhwa] – I have got it on good authority Hon. Speaker and it is totally unacceptable that we try to avoid debate on an important issue. This is almost the third or fourth day with members from the other side trying to evade and circumvent this debate. What is even more embarrassing is that they leave the two Vice Presidents of a country seated in this House. How callous and cruel is it Hon. Speaker? I just wanted to raise that as a point of order.

HON. MATUKE: On a point of order Mr. Speaker, I think the Hon. Member is misrepresenting facts. I do not think there was something like that which took place – [HON. CHAMISA: No, you gave instructions to Musabayana] – [AN HON. MEMBER: Isu hatina kutonzvinzwa] – Anyway Mr. Speaker, I think we need to count on our quorum just to see whether we can proceed – [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.] –

HON. GONESE: On a point of order Mr. Speaker …

THE TEMPORARY SPEAKER (HON. MARUMAHOKO): Order, order! I have already instructed that the bells be rung – [HON. GONESE: I had risen on a point of order Mr. Speaker Sir.] – Well, I have already ordered for the bells to be rung, so you wait for the bells first.

Bells rung.

THE TEMPORARY SPEAKER: Order, order!

Notice having been taken that there being present fewer than 70 members, the bells were rung for Seven Minutes and a Quorum still not being present, THE TEMPORARY SPEAKER adjourned the House without question put at Five O’clock p.m. pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order Number 56.
