Coronavirus vaccination in Zimbabwe catches on as more than 100 000 get the jab

Vaccination against coronavirus in Zimbabwe is catching on as 16 024 people got their first dose today raising the total to 103 815 while 3 422 got their second jab bringing the total to 20 938.

There was one death, seven new cases and 10 recoveries today resulting in the number of active cases dropping to 671. Most of the cases are in Harare with 438 and Bulawayo 125.

Zimbabwe has so far recorded 36 903 cases, 1 524 deaths and 34 708 recoveries.

The country has so far received 1.6 million doses of vaccine from China, including 1.2 million which it purchased, and 35 000 doses that were donated by India.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said the country had set aside US$100 million to import vaccines and would be receiving one million doses every month.

Zimbabwe intends to vaccinate at least 10 million citizens at attain herd immunity.
