120 Zimbabweans die of coronavirus in first nine days of 2021

Fifteen more Zimbabweans died of coronavirus today bringing the death toll for this month to 120 and the total so far to 483.

There were 839 new cases which raised the number of cases so far to 20 499 and those for this month alone to 6 632.

There are now increasing fears that Zimbabwe might extend the current 30-day lockdown if Zimbabweans do not change their behaviour.

Some 255 people recovered today bringing the total to 12 439.

The number of active cases rose to 7 577.  Harare has 3 455 cases. Manicaland rose to second place with 192 new cases today bringing the total number of active cases to 718. Bulawayo is now in third place with 628.

Manicaland is still in third place in terms of deaths but now has 64 against Harare’s 177 and Bulawayo’s 117.

Globally the number of cases rose to 89.8 million with 1.93 million deaths, 64.3 million recoveries and 23.6 million active cases.

With more than 1 300 people already dead today, the United States could clock 380 000 deaths by tomorrow. It has 8.9 million active cases.

South Africa has 1.21 million cases, 32 824 deaths and 224 640 active cases.

Its current level 3 lockdown ends on Friday.
