Zimbabwe war veterans leader tells Minister “Typhoid” Kasukuwere to clean Harare water first

Zimbabwe war veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa yesterday told Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to purify drinking water for Harare first to save the people from typhoid instead of messing around with ZANU-PF politics.

Describing Kasukuwere, who is also Local Government Minister, as Typhoid Tyson Kasukuwere, following an outbreak of typhoid in the capital, Mutsvangwa said: “We can’t have a party run on non-democratic lines, where the party is an extension of an individual called Kasukuwere doing whatever he pleases.

“Typhoid, Tyson Kasukuwere, who caused the death of many people due to typhoid and now wants to appoint people. Purify water from Mukuvisi River first so that people have access to clean water,” he said according to the State-controlled Herald.

Mutsvangwa, who was expelled from ZANU-PF last year but remains leader of the powerful war veterans association which has kept ZANU-PF in power since 2 000 when the party nearly lost for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, said war veterans were still behind their patron President Robert Mugabe but saluted Mugabe alone.

“We have travelled a long journey with President Mugabe. He is now 93 (and) getting to 94. He was our Commander-in-Chief during the war.

“We take pride from the history of the liberation struggle and not that of nationalists like Nkurumah. That is another generation….

“As war veterans, we take pride from the history of Julius Nyerere and Samora Machel. The history of defeating the white man. That is our history,” Mutsvangwa was quoted by The Herald as saying.

“Because of that, we continue to rally behind that structure that reflects the ideals of the liberation struggle.

“That history allows us to teach new generations to know that the independence of Zimbabwe is worth to defend with your blood.

Vamwewo zvavo vanoda kutaurawo zvavo we will not tolerate, particularly when you have a history of treachery like one professor,’’ he said in apparent reference to Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo.

“That is the man who was brought in the party by Solomon Mujuru. He was recovered and brought back in the party. Now he stays at State House, our State machinery is guarding at the gate to protect the revolution.

“That man has parachuted to State House. He is now causing havoc; in fact to try and fire the cause of counter revolution from the top. In war we know how we deal with sell-outs.

“Now you can understand that people are imposed on us, with such people — a man whose tentacles are found everywhere as if he is the Prime Minister of this Government, yet he has not been appointed formally.

“A man who steals Zimdef money! Then he goes kunotsvaga cynade kuuraya nzou kuti avake mastadium kumusha. Hapana kana vision,” Mutsvangwa said.

Kasukuwere and Moyo are reportedly the leaders of G40, a faction of ZANU-PF which Mutsvangwa said was destroying the party.

G40 is reportedly pushing for First Lady Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband and is said to be solidly behind Mugabe arguing that there is only one centre of power.

Former ZANU-PF vice-president Joice Mujuru said Mugabe was the real leader of G40.
