Zimbabwe war veterans defy Grace Mugabe- insist Kasukuwere must go

G40 is a faction in ZANU-PF fronted by Kasukuwere and Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo, who the First Lady also exonerated. Moyo is alleged to have defrauded the Zimbabwe Manpower Development  Fund which falls under his ministry.

G40 is pushing for The First Lady to succeed her husband though some reports say it is actually led by Mugabe himself.

Moyo has persistently denied about the existence of G40 as a political group insisting that it is a demographic group.

According to The Herald Mutsvangwa accused G40 of wanting to dismiss everyone from the party.

“They fire everybody from the party. They proceed to fire elected young men from the youth organisation. They proceed to fire elected chairmen of all provinces of the party. They are now even threatening to fire even the VP of a country.

“They are threatening to say we want to change the army. Who are you G40 to do all these things? We are the ones who built the State structure and we know the pain of building it. We built the defence and security structure of this country. Nobody dares think he can change it without going back to the people whom we fought for.”

War veterans led by Mutsvangwa allegedly have the backing of the service chiefs except the police chief.

War veterans Minister Tshinga Dube rubbished a statement by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, who is said to be aligned to G40, that he should ditch the war veterans group led by Mutsvangwa and should deal with one led by Mandi Chimene.

Dube says he only recognises the faction led by Mutsvangwa though Mutsvangwa is no longer a member of ZANU-PF because it was elected at a war veterans congress.

Mutsvangwa’s statement is a direct affront on Mugabe himself since he is reportedly trying to maintain unity until after the elections but they are still a year away.

It is also a clear message that Mugabe should rein-in his wife and she has a tendency to raffle the feathers of service chiefs whenever she addresses rallies.
