Zimbabwe tourism earns $890 million but visitors complain services are overpriced

Zimbabwe received 2.1 million tourists in 2016, up from 2.06 million in the previous year and earned the country $890 million, latest statistics released by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority show.

However, over 40 percent of tourists interviewed  in the Visitor Exit Survey said they were not happy because the services in the country were overpriced.

Speaking at the national launch for international year of sustainable tourism for development, Vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa urged tour operators to lower prices.

“Exorbitant prices scare away tourists,” he said.

The high police presence on the roads was frustrating tourists, he added.

“As government we remain committed to the free movement of tourists and the need to ensure their safety. I therefore urge two ministries, the ministry of home affairs and of tourism and hospitality to sit down together under one roof and determine how the need for safety and free movement of tourists can be guaranteed,” he said.-The Source
