Zimbabwe is to train Equatorial Guinea’s military officers in operational and logistical matters, The Herald reported today.
It said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces had deployed both members of the Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe to help out the oil-rich West African country.
Zimbabwe bailed out Equatorial Guinea earlier this year when it provided the country with security personnel for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Herald said relations between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea were bolstered in 2004 when Zimbabwe intercepted mercenaries who were en route to Malabo to stage a coup against long-serving President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
Mbasogo is the third longest serving African head of State having come to power in August 1979, just over six months before President Robert Mugabe.
Mugabe is the fifth longest serving African leader but is the oldest elected Head of State in the world.
