Zimbabwe slips two places in ease of doing business rankings

Zimbabwe has slipped two places in the World Bank’s “ease of doing business” rankings dropping from 153  in 2015 to 155 in the 2016 rankings.

Its neighbours, Botswana and South Africa, are ranked 72 and 73, with Zambia at 97, Mozambique at 133 and Namibia at 101.

Mauritius is the highest ranked African country and is at number 32.

Zimbabwe slipped from 179 to 182 in terms of starting a business but improved slightly from 185 to 184 in dealing with construction permits.

It also slipped from 160 to 161 in terms of getting electricity, but remained stagnant at 114 in registering property and at 166 in enforcing contracts.

It improved tremendously in term of getting credit moving from 90 to 79 and was six places up in terms of protecting minority investors (87 to 81) and four places up in terms of resolving insolvency (156-152) but slipped in terms of trading across borders from 99 to 100 and paying taxes from 142 to145.
