Zimbabwe Shutdown pastor arrested

Evan Mawarire, the Baptist pastor behind #ThisFlag campaign which is said to have played a part in the recent one-day shutdown which paralysed the country last week,  has been arrested this morning.

His lawyer Harrison Nkomo said Mawarire was charged with inciting pubic violence after he handed himself over to the police.

The Herald said he surrendered himself at 9am.

It quoted an unnamed source as saying: “He has been arrested on allegations of inciting violence and is likely to appear in court tomorrow. He came today with his lawyers at around 9am and has been on the run since last week.”
