Zimbabwe sets up committee to find solutions to power problems

Zimbabwe today set up an inter-ministerial committee to work with the Ministry of Energy and Power Development to find solutions to the present power and energy problems.

The country has been experiencing fuel shortages despite hiking prices by nearly 500 percent.

It has also been forced to introduce load-shedding of up to 18 hours a day because of power shortages.

According to the Ministry of Information, the committee is made up of Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu, Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira, Lands Minister Perrance Shiri, Mines Minister Winston Chitando and ICT Minister Kazembe Kazembe.

The ministry said Energy Minister Fortune Chasi is in South Africa for electricity supply negotiations with ESKOM.

Zimbabwe paid ESKOM US$10 million recently to settle its US$33 million debt so that it can negotiate power imports.
