Zimbabwe Security Minister says missing doctor told colleague he was going for all night prayer

Zimbabwe Security Minister Owen Ncube today said that the president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association Peter Magombeyi who was allegedly abducted on Saturday evening and is still missing told a colleague at 8pm that he was going to an all-night prayer meeting and would not be coming back.

It was the same colleague who reported Magombeyi’s abduction the following morning, he said.

Ncube said he had directed the security agencies to investigate the abduction including the possibility of a third force but added that he had directed the security agencies to carry out the investigation with an objective and open mind.

Magombeyi’s abduction has caused a stir with condemnation locally, regionally and international something that has upset the government as it believes the abduction was meant to tarnish the image of the country ahead of the United National General Assembly meeting in New York and the visit to Zimbabwe by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association Clement Nyaletsossi Voule.
