Zimbabwe schools, which will have a phased opening which started with examination classes on Monday, will close on 18 December and re-open on 4 January 2021 giving a vacation of only 17 days.
The schools closed in March at the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and re-opened on Monday for those writing Grade 7, Form 4 and Form 6 examinations. Their term will be 60 days.
So far 228 people have died of coronavirus out of 7 837 who got the virus.
There are only 1 487 active cases at the moment as some 6 122 people have recovered.
Those doing Grade 6, Form 3 and Form 5 will start on 26 October with their term lasting 40 days.
The remainder of the pupils will only have 30 days and will start classes on 9 November.
The Ministry of Education said schools will close on 18 December and re-open on 4 January.
The ministry said despite the short term, pupils will proceed to the next class.
