Zimbabwe records no coronavirus death for the first time in March

Zimbabwe today had no coronavirus death for the first time in March and only had 11 new cases and 29 recoveries.

Cases to date stand at 36 271, deaths at 1 485 and recoveries at 33 854.

Active cases have dropped to 952.

Bulawayo now has only 10 cases while Harare has 523, Manicaland 116 and Matebeleland North 183. Mashonaland Central has nine cases, the lowest in the country at the moment.

Zimbabwe has announced that it will open schools next week starting with examination classes but has not re-opened its borders.

Only 226 people were vaccinated today bringing the total to 32 240.

China donated 200 000 doses initially, enough to vaccinate 100 000 people the two doses per person required.

India has donated 75 000 does.

The Zimbabwe government says it will buy 1.8 million doses from China which donated another 200 000 doses to make it 400 000.

More vaccines are to come from the World Health Organisation, Russia and the United Kingdom.
