Zimbabwe needs new blood in government, says ZCTU

Zimbabwe’s main labour movement, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), says appointments to the new government should be based on performance not by loyalty to political leaders.

A new government is expected after Emmerson Mnangagwa is sworn in as President on Friday following the resignation of Robert Mugabe.

In a statement today ZCTU Secretary General Japhet Moyo said the incoming administration should avoid the recycling the same people who have failed over the years.

“We are aware of people who have become career ministers and have been in government for the past 37 years. Some of these people have sordid pasts and are well known thieves and thugs,” he said.

“There is need to cultivate a new culture where people are appointed to public offices based on performance rather than loyalty to leaders.”- The Source
