Zimbabwe Electoral Commission says women with nail polish or fake nails will not be allowed to vote

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission says women with nail polish or artificial nails on their left little finger will not be allowed to vote on Monday.

ZEC Commissioner Qhubani Moyo said: “What happens is that cutex distorts the voting ink therefore come election day cutex and fake nails on the voting finger will not be allowed.”

Zimbabweans are going to the polls on 30 July to elect a new leader as well as legislators and councilors.

The country is holding one of its most peaceful elections though some human rights organisations say they have received reports of violence.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, considered the main rival of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, said he is not boycotting the election despite some irregularities because “winners don’t quit.”

Mnangagwa who is leading by a very narrow margin wants a peaceful, free and fair election so that Zimbabwe can rejoin the international community.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has started sending voters messages encouraging them to exercise their right and which polling station they will vote at.
