Zimbabwe coronavirus recovery rate now at 84.2%

Zimbabwe’s coronavirus recovery rate today improved by one percentage point to 84.2% after 464 people recovered from the virus while there were only 123 new cases and 14 deaths.

Although the deaths remain high, the number of active cases continues to decline, and now stands at 4 139.

The seven-day rolling average for new cases also dropped from 158 to 138.

The total number of cases now stands at 34 781 and that of recoveries at 29 289. Deaths have gone up to 1 353 and 990 are for this year alone.

Active cases declined across the board with Harare now at 1 551, Manicaland 650, Matebeleland North 500 and Bulawayo 335.

Zimbabwe is under a strict lockdown up to 15 February and the trend points to a relaxation of the restrictions.

Business is already calling for trading hours to be extended from the current 8am to 3pm to 8am to 4:30 pm.

It also wants the curfew to be relaxed from 6pm to 6am to 8pm to 5am.
