Zimbabwe coronavirus death toll rises to 276 as one dies in Matebeleland South

Zimbabwe’s coronavirus death toll rose to 276 as one person died of the virus in Matebeleland South yesterday pushing the death toll in the province to nine.

There were 128 new cases and only 10 recoveries.

The total number of cases now stands at 9 950 and could surpass 10 000 today as the country has been recording more than 100 new cases every day over the past few days.

The number of recoveries has, however, slowed down and now totals 8 482.

There are now 1 192 active cases, the majority of them being in Bulawayo which has 449, followed by Matebeleland North with 196, Mashonaland West with 138, Harare with 128 and Matebeleland South with 124.

The number of cases in Matebeleland North, which were pushed by the outbreak at John Tallach Secondary, dropped from 201 after five people recovered.

Matebeleland North has recorded only three deaths, the lowest in the country.

Zimbabwe had 230 active cases at the beginning of this month and only Bulawayo had more than 100 cases at 102. Seven provinces had 20 or less cases.

Globally the number of cases now stands at 63.1 million cases. There have been 1.47 million deaths, some 43.5 million people have recovered, but there are still 18.1 million active cases.
