Zimbabwe has tasked Finance Minister Tendai Biti to draft a framework for diamond mining and marketing in the country. Biti told a private radio station today: “I have been tasked by Cabinet to …see how diamond is accounted for from the time mining takes place and to the time that it is exported.” Zimbabwe is currently barred from freely trading its diamonds from Marange. Kimberley Process chair Mathieu Yamba gave Zimbabwe the go-ahead on Saturday but his decision is being challenged.
