Zimbabwe announces a 21-day lockdown from Monday

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown from Monday, 30 March to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Mnangagwa said only state and health workers will be exempted from the lockdown.

Security forces will be deployed to ensure people comply with the lockdown.

Food markets will be opened but transport services have been suspended. Only ZUPCO and Public Service buses will be exempted.

Motorists seeking to refuel will not be allowed to leave vehicles.

So far, only five cases of coronavirus have been confirmed and one person has died.
