ZANU-PF wins a two-thirds majority

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front has walked away with a two-thirds majority after winning 144 of the 210 seats though results for three Harare constituencies, which are all likely to go to the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance, are still to be announced.

The MDC Alliance so far had 61 seats, one went to the National Patriotic Front and one to an independent candidate, Themba Mliswa.

A two-thirds majority can be dangerous for democracy as the ruling party can make crucial amendments to the law including the constitution without the support of the opposition which is a critical player.
