ZANU-PF suspends 89 more

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front has suspended 89 more members, two for three years and 87 for two years.

But more are likely to be suspended as the party is still dealing with disciplinary cases from Bulawayo, Matebeleland North, Matebeleland South and Mashonaland West.

Masvingo, where Dzikamai Mavhaire and Kudakwashe Bhasikiti were expelled from the party, had the highest suspensions at 28. These included former deputy ministers Paul Chimedza and Tongai Muzenda.

Twenty-two, including former Provincial Affairs Minister Simba Mudarikwa, were suspended in Mashonaland East.

In the Midlands 17, were suspended. Former Minister Francis Nhema was suspended for three years.

Fourteen were suspended in Harare and eight in Mashonaland Central.

Information Secretary Simon Khaya Moyo said all those suspended remain party members but cannot hold party positions during the suspension.

A dozen has already been expelled from the party and 13 others suspended for five years in a purge that began after the party congress in December.

Those suspended are accused of having been loyal to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru who has been accused of trying to topple party president Robert Mugabe.
