Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front spokesman Rugare Gumbo was last night suspended from the party for five years while war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda was expelled from the party. Party national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo said Chipinge South legislator Enoch Porusingazi was also suspended for five years. The decisions were made at yesterday politburo meeting but no reasons were given for the suspensions. Gumbo has been under attack for passing his own views to the media rather than those of the party and was accused of favouring Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s faction. ZANU-PF is preparing for its congress next month and yesterday’s politburo meeting demonstrated that the anti-Mujuru faction already had an upper hand. The Disciplinary Committee that made the decision comprises SK Moyo, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Sydney Sekeramayi, Sikhanyiso Ndlovu and Oppah Muchinguri. The politburo also upheld the votes of no confidence on four provincial chairmen; Kalisto Gwanetsa of Masvingo, Amos Midzi of Harare, Jason Machaya of Midlands and Andrew Langa of Matabeleland South. Sibanda was expelled from the party before but bounced back.
