ZANU-PF infighting gets ugly

Infighting within the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front turned ugly yesterday when Mashonaland West provincial leader Temba Mliswa described three senior party officials -Information Minister Jonathan Moyo, Environment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere and President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwawo- as gay-gangsters being paid by the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency. “I will prove it. It’s the whole crew. We will not allow the party to be run by gay gangsters. They are constantly loaded with money because the CIA funds them,” he said according to The Herald. Mliswa’s outburst is reported to have been sparked by accusations that some 12 ZANU-PF legislators, including Mliswa, were spies because they received money from the United States embassy but he argues that the fight was for his post ahead of the party congress in December. “I am not naïve. The Americans and the British have been running programmes in Zimbabwe for the past 34 years. Why has that become an issue now? I am a legislator and one of my roles is to represent my people,” Mliswa argued. As if this was not enough, Mliswa had another tiff with senior politicians from his province resulting in a provincial meeting being aborted when members asked him to recuse himself. According to The Herald Mliswa accused Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and his wife Florence and Zhuwawo of being corrupt. He is also reported to have had an altercation with Beauty Zhuwawo, Patrick’s wife, after she complained that he was slandering people that were not at the meeting.
