ZANU-PF expels Mutasa and Mliswa, welcomes Kereke and Samkange

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front yesterday expelled its former Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa and former Mashonaland West Chairman Temba Mliswa and declared their parliamentary seats vacant. At the same time, it welcomed Munyaradzi Kereke and Jonathan Samkange who stood as independent candidates in the 2013 elections and won. Mutasa represented Headlands while Mliswa was the legislator for Hurungwe West. Kereke represents Bikita West while Samkange is the Member of Parliament for Mudzi South. Mutasa has argued all along that he cannot be expelled from the current ZANU-PF because he was never a member of that party. He says he belongs to the ZANU-PF prior to congress and has even argued that he cannot join the Movement for Democratic Change. Instead, he argues, the MDC should join his ZANU-PF because it is the bigger party. Both the pre-congress and post congress ZANU-PF’s are led by Robert Mugabe so it is not clear whether Mutasa still insists that Mugabe leads both “parties”. He has threatened to take his case to court. Mliswa, on the other hand, said his expulsion gives him peace of mind.
