What’s happening in the MDC camp?

The election of the Speaker of Parliament and President of the Senate today raised a fundamental question. Is everything all right in the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance camp?

The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front has 180 members in the National Assembly, 145 elected and 35 from proportional representation. Jacob Mudenda who was elected Speaker garnered 179 which showed the party was well organized.

The Movement for Democratic Change Alliance has 87 legislators, 63 elected and 24 from proportional representation but its nominee for Speaker, Paurina Mpariwa got 79 votes.

The same happened in the Senate where Mabel Chinomona of ZANU-PF polled 52 votes while MDCA’s Morgen Komichi got 22 votes.

ZANU-PF has 35 seats in the Senate and the MDCA 24.
