What kind of parliamentarians are we, asks Chinotimba?

Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba raised eyebrows yesterday when he asked what kind of parliamentarians Zimbabwe’s legislators were because they had not gone to see the extent of the Tokwe-Mukosi disaster which has seen hundreds of villagers evacuated because of flooding.

Chinotimba, however, raised the issue as a point of order during a contribution to the President Speech by Chiredzi South legislator Callisto Gwanetsa.

Gwanetsa was thanking those who had helped in the disaster including Namibia when Chinotimba rose and said: “On a point of order Mr. Speaker Sir. The hon. member was talking about the Tokwe-Mukosi floods. As Members of Parliament, we have never thought of going to see the Tokwe-Mukosi disaster. What kind of Parliamentarians are we, if we do not go there to see the extent of the disaster?” to which other members responded: “Hear, hear”.

The acting Speaker said there was no point of order.
