What does Khupe’s visit to Tsvangirai’s grave mean?

Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai leader Thokozani Khupe is reported to have visited the grave of founding president Morgan Tsvangirai at his village in Buhera yesterday.

According to Pindula News, Khupe was accompanied by Douglas Mwonzora, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri.

She was filmed saying: “We are going to work together. We will remain united and solid like a rock and we would like to promise you that we will not let you down. We are going to continue with the job that left… we are going to continue in your spirit and we will make sure that Zimbabwean people have a better life. That is why we are here, I and my colleagues…”

Khupe also implored the late party leader to help her and her colleagues to win all the battles they will face and vowed to look after Tsvangirai’s mother.

While that might have appeared a sign of desperation, the sight of Khupe holding hands with Tsvangiai’s mother means a lot.

This was the same woman who threatened to commit suicide if Nelson Chamisa and Tsvangirai’s wife Elizabeth attended Morgan’s funeral.

They bulldozed their way but the fact that Khupe and her delegation were welcomed by the Tsvangirai family into their homestead and then to the grave means a lot.

It might not mean much politically but it also shows that Vincent, Morgan Tsvangirai’s son who recently defied the ban on opposition legislators to attend Parliament, has the blessing of the family.

This also puts into question, the argument that Chamisa has used all along that he was anointed by Tsvangirai.

  • When Tsvangirai most labeled him a womanizer and now he is dead every one is busy hero worshipping. Honestly speaking Tsvangirai played his party but l think any sane futuristic must focus on future. So rituals are a waste of resources. These guys have no ideas. Like someone suggested Chamisa must discard this MDC tainted brand
