Were government officials that accompanied Mugabe to Mexico getting $1 000 a day?

Foreign Policy, a United States publication which says it is a trusted advisor for global leaders when the stakes are highest, today reported that Herald staff and other government officials that accompanied President Robert Mugabe to Mexico  received a $1 000 to $1 500 per diem.

The delegation was in Cancun to attend the three-day Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The report did not say whether the per diem was paid by the organisers of the conference or by the Zimbabwean government.

But for reference on the magnitude of the allowance, the report said an average government employee nets about $500 a year which translates to a ridiculous $46.66 a month.
