Victoria Falls residents cash-in on ZANU-PF conference

Victoria Falls residents are cashing-in on the shortage of accommodation in the tourist resort during the week-long Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front annual conference.

According to The Chronicle, homeowners have hiked their daily rentals, some even doubling the rate, as hotels in the city will accommodate less than half the delegates expected.

More than 6 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference but the town has only 3 400 beds.

The Chronicle says that the party is likely to accommodate only 2 500 VIPs in hotels with the rest being accommodated in schools or private homes.

Rooms that normally go for $10 to $20 a day, are now charging $30 to $35.

The party has pegged private accommodation at $35 a day.

The conference which began on Monday ends on Sunday.
