Bloomberg reports that UK and EU emissaries met representatives of both the Zimbabwe African Union-Patriotic Front and the MDC Alliance over the past 10 days.
The report said though President Emmerson Mnangagwa had not been approached, his deputy Constantino Chiwenga had indicated that he might welcome the proposal.
It also said it was not clear whether Chamisa would accept the proposal.
Chamisa has been adamant that he won the elections.
