Tsvangirai winds up Manicaland tour- taking a break

Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai wound up his tour of Manicaland, his home province, today and will take a break before resuming the tour to Mashonaland East, then Mashonaland Central and finally Mashonaland West.

First Lady Grace Mugabe is due to address a rally in Buhera North this weekend.

Observers are watching what tone her rally will take following her near disastrous rallies last year at which she continuously lambasted Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa for trying to wrestle power from her husband who turns 93 in six days.

Tsvangirai has already been to Matebeleland North and South, the Midlands and Masvingo.

He has been seeking a mandate from his supporters to enter into a coalition ahead of next year’s elections but one of his potential partners, the Zimbabwe People First party, has split with party leader Joice Mujuru firing her top seven lieutenants who in turn expelled her from the party.

Now she is saying the party elders wanted her to have sex with male party members, but one of the elders Rugare Gumbo said this was typical of how Mujuru misread their sentiments.

“We indeed said she was supposed to be the queen bee. Not that we wanted to sleep with her, but we were supposed to do all the dirty work, fight for her, protect her and not expose her because we understood her limitations,” he told Newsday.

“We knew if she was exposed, she would make mistakes like she has been making after being exposed. Now, how can you have a leader, who does not understand such simple things?”

Mujuru’s sexual escapades are not new.

Last year, a paper published in London said that the military had intelligence that Mujuru was sleeping with men in her party to keep their loyalty.

The military had allegedly used drone cameras to record her naked in her bedroom.

President Tsvangirai winds up Manicaland tour

President Tsvangirai today wound up his three-day consultation programme in Manicaland with a breakfast meeting with business leaders and an address to the provincial assembly.

It has been an enriching engagement with opinion leaders from Chipinge to Nyanga. The consultations revealed fear and intimidation in the communities, abuse of traditional leaders, scepticism over ZEC independence as well as the biometric voting system.

President Tsvangirai has been on a tour to consult people on the crisis facing the country and the governance architecture post-2018, among other issues.

The popular people's President is going on a short break and will resume the provincial consultation programme in Mashonaland East after which he will move to Mashonaland Central and lastly Mashonaland West in early March
