Tsvangirai tours Masvingo

Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai today began a three-day tour of Masvingo kicking off with a visit to Gutu where he met traditional leaders, church leaders, pensioners and other community leaders.

His spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka said the country-wide tour which has already taken Tsvangirai to Matebeleland and the Midlands has scared the government so much that the District Administrator for Gutu called an emergency meeting of chiefs and headmen from the area to try to scuttle the MDC meeting but the meeting went ahead.

After Gutu, Tsvangirai was expected to travel to Bikita and will be in Zaka tomorrow.

Tsvangirai’s tour has been overshadowed by squabbles in the Zimbabwe People First where party leader Joice Mujuru fired seven of her top lieutenants who in turn fired her.

Some of the top officials who were not fired resigned.
