Tsvangirai postpones address as a sign of respect for Mugabe

Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai has postponed his state-of-the-nation address which was scheduled for today as a sign of respect for President Robert Mugabe who lost his only surviving sister Bridget at the weekend.

His spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka said Tsvangirai had already sent his message of condolence to Mugabe.
Tsvangirai felt it would be inappropriate to go ahead with his address which was meant to unpack problems the country was facing.

Tamborinyoka did not give an alternative date.

The Movement for Democratic Change, which won only 49 seats at the 31 July 2013 elections, has been piling pressure on the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front for failing to turn around the country’s economy.

It says ZANU-PF is failing to fulfil its election promises and the only way the country can progress is through fresh elections which can bring about legitimacy.

ZANU-PF is banking on its economic recovery programme the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset).
