Tsvangirai plus Mujuru equals double failure says Jonathan Moyo

Tsholostho North legislator Jonathan Moyo has rubbished the proposed grand coalition of Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai and ousted Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front Vice-President Joice Mujuru as a coalition of failed politicians that is doomed to fail.

In a tweet in response to online headlines which said Tsvangirai was now prepared to work with ZANU-PF former Vice-President Joice Mujuru, Moyo tweeted: “Weakness in Numbers: one MDC-T failure plus one former Zanu PF failure = Double Failure!”

Zimbabwe’s independent media and online media were yesterday awash with news about the grand coalition which Tsvangirai hinted on in his state-of-the-nation address on Saturday.

Tsvangirai, however, did not mention any political party or individual he would be joining forces with.

“I want to tell Zimbabweans today, that our convergence on non-participation must mean that there are exciting political prospects on the horizon,” he said in conclusion to his address.

“I as Morgan Tsvangirai and the party I lead are prepared to work with Zimbabweans of all shades and political colours to bring back the country to sanity.

“I see the true grand coalition not as the unity of individuals or leaders of political parties, but as a unity of Zimbabweans who possess shared values and convergence on the patriotic goal to take our country forward.

“Today, I promise Zimbabweans that we are on the brink of an exciting political moment and they will see us as political leaders converging on those issues that matter most to us all Zimbabweans.

“It is on this score that I can tell you here that on the 11th of July in Harare, I will be joining other Zimbabweans from various political backgrounds at a prayer meeting for Itai Dzamara that is being organized by the church,” he said.

Mujuru has never stated her political intentions since being expelled from ZANU-PF but former Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa and former Secretary for Publicity Rugare Gumbo have been claiming to represent her in what they call the original ZANU-PF with the PF standing for People First.

Jonathan Moyo’s status is also unclear at the moment with unconfirmed reports saying he was asked to step down as Minister of Information following his election as a Member of Parliament for Tsholotsho North because he was appointed minister as a non-constituency MP.

Though he has been tweeting incessantly over the past week, Moyo has refused to comment on his status.

In one incident he just tweeted: “The virtue of positional journalism in Zim's media, ain’t about not believing everything you read but about believing nothing you read!”

His twitter-feed which is updated regularly everyday still describes him as ZANU-PF Secretary for Science and Technology,  Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, and MP Tsholotsho North.
