Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai is critically ill and his supporters should “brace for the worst”, Associated Press said today quoting a party source “with knowledge of his condition”.
“From the medical report that I received yesterday the situation is not looking good. He is critically ill and we should brace for the worst,” the source told AP.
Tsvangirai has been in-and-out of hospital over the last six months and is currently receiving treatment in South Africa.
He indicated that he wants to step down to give way to new blood but his party insists he is their presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections.
Reports say there is now bitter infighting within the MDC-T over his succession.
The future of the MDC Alliance which he formed with six other political parties also seems to be at stake.
Tsvangirai spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka told AP that he was “stable but the nation should keep on praying”.
