Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai may have lost his last hope. South African President and Southern African Development Community appointed Zimbabwe mediator Jacob Zuma had declared the just ended elections peaceful.
Some reports even said Zuma had asked Tsvangirai to prove that the elections were a huge farce. Tsvangirai said the elections were a huge farce and were null and void.
But Zuma told the South African Broadcasting Corporation:”To me, having cast my eye back to what happened in the last elections, something good has happened in Zimbabwe. The elections were so peaceful. This was another Zimbabwe .. an achievement we must not undermine.”
SADC and the African Union have declared the elections credible, free and fair in their preliminary reports. If they rule the elections free and fair, the European Union will have no choice but to accept the results.
The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front is heading for a landslide victory according to the results released so far.
With his campaign focussed on “Bhora mugedhe”, Robert Mugabe could also be headed for an outright victory.
Despite its distaste for the 89-year-old, the West may have to accept his victory, this time.
