John Makumbe has been one of the most outstanding critics of President Robert Mugabe and his Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front since the departure of Jonathan Moyo from the University of Zimbabwe. He has also been closely allied to the Movement for Democratic Change. But we have found only 17 Wikileaks cables that mention his name. Here are all the cables.
Tomorrow we start with Makumbe’s archrival when they were at the University of Zimbabwe, in the same department, but are now worlds apart. Jonathan Moyo has courted controversy from the time he was at the University of Zimbabwe, when he moved to the Ford Foundation in Kenya, when he joined the Wits University in South Africa, when he joined the Zimbabwe government, when he left to become an independent Member of Parliament, when he rejoined ZANU-PF and of course when Wikileaks released its diplomatic cables.
Our initial search has indicated that there are 246 cables that mention his name. We intend to go through all of them and publish all that relate to him in the month of November.
