The Botswana menace

Botswana police chief has decided to break ranks with politicians. He has spilled it out. Zimbabweans are a menace in his country. They are responsible for the spiralling crime.

They have even been accused of spreading the killer disease AIDS with Botswana now the worst affected country.

Figures being touted are staggering. Some 125 000 Zimbabweans are reported to be illegally entering into Botswana every month. The country is only able to repatriate 2 500.

Simply put 1.5 million Zimbabweans enter into Botswana every year but the country repatriates only 30 000. If this were true, then there would be more Zimbabweans than Batswana in just two years. Or is this already the case?

But of course there is a downside to it. The crisis in Zimbabwe has provided booming business for Botswana especially for the oil industry. Reports say oil company executives almost fainted when Zimbabwe threatened to stop fuel imports by individuals from Botswana because they had ordered too much fuel banking on the Zimbabwean clientelle.
