Telecel to adjust promotion and service benefits

Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile service provider Telecel says the recently introduced five percent levy on airtime sales will result in adjustment of some promotion and service benefits.

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa last month slapped a five percent excise duty on mobile phone credit as part of the cash-strapped government’s revenue-raising measures.

Telecel, which has 2.3 million subscribers behind market-leader Econet’s over nine million, put out a cryptic statement seeking to explain the imminent impact of the tax.

“Please note that due to the recent five percent levy on airtime Telecel will be changing some non-tariff aspects of our promotions and services. This means that some promotion and service benefits will be adjusted. These changes will not directly affect current tariffs,” Telecel said in a statement posted on Facebook.-The Source
