Tanzania’s Magufuli says Mnangagwa victory is a reflection of people’s confidence in him

Tanzanian President John Magufuli says President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory in Monday’s elections is a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by the people of Zimbabwe in leading them to prosperity.

In his congratulatory message Magufuli said: “Cde. Mnangagwa. On behalf of the Government and people of Tanzania,I convey my sincere congratulations on your victory in the Presidential Election of Zimbabwe.Your victory is a reflection of the confidence reposed in you by the people of Zimbabwe in leading them to prosperity.”

Mnangagwa has already received a congratulatory message from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Magufuli was elected amid controversy in 2015 but has won the hearts of most Tanzanians, except the media, for curbing corruption in the country.

Mnangagwa has also promised to eradicate corruption but was probably handicapped by not having his own mandate as some Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front leaders could have sabotaged his election.

He has also promised to turn Zimbabwe into a middle income country by 2030.

The nation now awaits his inauguration and who he will include in his government.
