The youth assembly of the Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai faction yesterday held a prayer meeting in memory of Susan Tsvangirai, the party leader’s wife who died in a car accident on 6 March 2009, less than a month after her husband was sworn-in as Prime Minister.
Party deputy leader Thokozani Khupe described Susan Tsvangirai as a worker, an organiser, a manager, an advisor, and a nation builder. She said Amai Tsvangirai was a loving woman who always welcomed MDC members into her home regardless of their positions in the party.
Tsvangirai’s fortunes have plummeted since her death.

Amai Susan Tsvangirai remembered
The MDC Youth Assembly yesterday held a prayer meeting in celebration of the life of the late Amai Susan Tsvangirai at the party headquarters.
Amai Tsvangirai died in a car accident on 6 March 2009 when the vehicle they were traveling in was sideswiped on their way to Buhera.
Speaking after the prayer meeting, Vice President Hon. Thokozani Khupe saluted Amai Tsvangirai for her heroic standing in support of the struggle for democracy and good governance.
She said that Amai Tsvangirai was a worker, an organiser, a manager, an advisor, and a nation builder. Hon Khupe said that the late amai was a loving woman who always welcomed MDC members into her home regardless of their positions in the party.
Hon Khupe added she had moved a motion in parliament and is pushing for the adoption of the International Day of Women, which falls on 8 March, as a national holiday. She said that it is important for the nation to recognise the importance of women as game changers in society.
Adding to this, Hon Thamsanqa Mahlangu, the national deputy Organising Secretary lambasted Robert Mugabe for splashing a million dollars on his birthday while neglecting the plight of the people.
Speaker after speaker expressed their pain at the loss of amai at a critical point in the party’s political life. However, Reverend Furayi encouraged the people to remain hopeful and to continue to pray for the Zimbabwe they want, a nation with love, peace and unity.
