Rugare Gumbo says Mujuru is not forming a new party

Former Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front spokesman Rugare Gumbo says former Vice-President Joice Mujuru and her colleagues who were sidelined at the party congress in December are not planning to form a new party because they belong to ZANU-0PF and cannot be forced out by people that joined the party after the liberation struggle.  “We don’t intend to form a party at all. We are fighting within and Mai Mujuru has said she is not leaving the party, no one will push her out of the party, Mutasa has said he is not going to be pushed out of the party and my views have always been clear on that one,” Gumbo told Voice of America’s Studio 7. “We can’t be pushed out of the party by people who joined the liberation struggle after independence….People must understand one thing, we are not fighting for ourselves. We are fighting for the young generations to come. We are fighting to ensure that we leave a legacy of good governance, of democracy, of justice and of freedom….”  Gumbo and former war veterans’ leader Jabulani Sibanda were expelled from ZANU-PF but all the others still belong to the party but are now ordinary members. Studio 7 was introduced by the Voice of America in 2003 as a surrogate to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and broadcasts in the country’s three main languages- English, Shona and Ndebele. An audit by the United States government showed that it was one of the most expensive stations to run and at one time it cost the United States taxpayer $5.22 to reach one Zimbabwean while VOA’s Hausa service only cost 6 cents to reach a Nigerian.
