African giant pouched rats are being used to detect tuberculosis in Tanzania and they are faster than technicians. They can do what a technician takes the whole day to do in just seven minutes.
According to the government-owned Daily News, the rats are managed by Sokoine University of Agriculture and were trained by Belgians.
They are currently being used to detect TB from specimens collected from 17 hospitals in Dar es Salaam.
