Proplastics begins construction of new factory

Plastics manufacturer, Proplastics says construction of its new factory has started after the company received regulatory approvals and secured funding for the project.

The new factory, which will replace the current 54-year old property, is expected to increase the company’s production capacity by at least 60 percent to 8 000 tonnes annually from the current 5 000 tonnes.

Proplastic chief executive Kuda Chigiya said that the project likely to be completed in October next year.

“We are not at liberty to disclose the exact figures at the moment as we are in closed period, however we can confirm that all the required financing is now in place,” said Chigiya.

“The project has already commenced, the contractor has been appointed, the site handover was done and the construction has now commenced with topsoil removal already completed. All requisite approvals have been secured including endorsements of the architectural works.”

Chigiya said the biggest challenge was the sourcing of foreign currency required to buy additional equipment. – The Source
